This holiday season, help Life 96.5 deliver the gift of kindness!

We’ll be focusing on the many chances between now and Christmas to make a difference with our Hands and Feet. Each week, we’ll focus on a new opportunity. See below for the full list & at the bottom of the page you can easily share your volunteering story. We’d really love to hear from you! Here’s where and how you can serve—November & December 2011 (all locations are in Sioux Falls)

● Operation Christmas Child: The annual collection of shoeboxes filled with gifts takes place at Abiding Savior Free Lutheran Church, 49th and Bahnson, November 14-21. Volunteers are needed to accept and count boxes, place them in shipping containers, and load them into trucks. Call the church at 371-3800 to volunteer for shifts.

● Salvation Army Bell Ringing:  Spend an hour or two ringing a bell and helping with the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign. Choose your day beginning Friday, November 18. Bell Ringing is every day except Sundays, through December 24th at 2pm. Volunteering will help raise funds to meet the needs of many in our community. Some locations include: Big Lots, Crossroads, Gordman’s, Hobby Lobby, HyVee stores, K-Mart, Lewis Drug, Macy’s, Sam’s Club, Sunshine, Walgreens, and Walmart. If you are willing to volunteer, even one day or for an evening, please contact Cowboy Moreno at 338-6649.

● Goodwill Industries Thanksgiving Dinner: Help is needed on Saturday, November 19th to serve dinner to up to 1,100 guests. Contact Betty at 731-1932 to volunteer. Dinner takes place at South Dakota Achieve (4100 Western Ave.).

● Active Generations Deck The Halls: Groups can adopt a room at Active Generations to decorate for the holidays. Come in November 21 through November 23 in the afternoon and evening. AG members will vote on the best room. Contact: Lisa Howard, 336-6722.

● Parade of Lights: Volunteers are needed to clean up after the Parade of Lights on November 25 from 8:15pm to 10:00pm. The clean up group will work along the route (14th to 5th Street on Phillips Ave.) to throw away cups or other litter left behind. Contact Maureen Ohm at 338-4009.

● Salvation Army Toy Town:  Distribute toys. Applicants will be interviewed. Call 338-6649 for details and dates, and interview times. The Salvation Army, 800 N. Cliff Ave., Sioux Falls.

● Children’s Inn Gift Wrap Center: Located in the Macy’s Court of The Empire Mall November 25 through December 24 during mall hours. Volunteers may serve as many two hour shifts as they like. Contact Staci for details, at 338-0116 or Staci.kropuenske@chssd.org.

● Goodwill Shoe and Mitten Party: Volunteers are needed to help kids with trying on shoes and handing out mittens on Saturday, December 10th. Volunteers are needed between 9:30am and 2pm. The Good will store is located at 4701 E. 41st St., Sioux Falls. To help, call Elthea at 731-1932. 125 volunteers are needed.

● Family Visitation Center: Join others to help at the Holiday Event for families. The agency needs volunteers to help with face painting, games, crafts, etc. on December 10th from 11-2. To help, contact Jennifer at 275-2071or Jennifer.Vollmuth@fvcenter.org

● Toys for Tots: Toy distribution to area children and their families takes place December 10th through December 18th. Volunteer by calling and leaving a message at 338-9741 (you will hear back within 48 hours) or visit http://sioux-falls-sd.toysfortots.org or email siouxfallstoysforfots@yahoo.com

Angel Tree – The Salvation Army needs volunteers to help at its Angel Tree from Thanksgiving through Christmas Eve. Volunteers will be stationed at the Angel Tree in the Macy’s Wing of the Empire Mall for shifts during mall hours. They will give out gift suggestion ideas to shoppers and take in donations for area children. To help, Dial 211 or 274-1407.

Project Warm Up – Last year 1,049 kids in the Sioux Falls School District were identified as homeless. Project Warm-Up provides many of those homeless children with a new fleece blankets during the holidays. There are many ways to help, including making blankets or volunteer on December 3 at 11 am to 4 pm at Edison School. Contact the Helpline center to volunteer, Dial 211 or 274-1407.
