Do you ever have those times that you just shake your head and think … “I hope the neighbors didn’t see that?” That was a topic on our morning show today. My husband Jim decided yesterday to take a sledgehammper to a faulty carbon minoxide detector that would randomly go off. For some reason we couldn’t figure out how to take out the batteries and shut it off, so this seemed like the only solution to him. So, we opened the phones and asked for your stories. We got an overwhelming amount of calls telling us about their naked child running around the back yard. Thanks for taking time to call us today! Read more »

These tough economic times may have you a little nervous about your own financial situation. Today we mentioned there’s some local help and classes. Here’s the info.

The Ronning Branch of Siouxland Libraries has scheduled two free financial education seminars. The first seminar is tonight and is called Living Within Your Means. Participants will learn how to set financial goals and create workable spending and saving plans. The second seminar, set for March 2, will focus on monitoring credit history, precautionary measures and what to do if you are a victim of fraud. Both seminars will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and will be presented by the Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Lutheran Social Services. Call 367-8718 to register. Read more »

The community of Cottonwood, Minnesota, gathered yesterday to mark the anniversary of a deadly school bus crash and to celebrate the lives of the four young children who lost their lives one year ago yesterday. Rita Javens. Traci Olson. Kandy Stevens. The collision happened at around 3:30 in the afternoon on highway 23 on February 19th, 2008. Four children, Jesse, Hunter, Emilee and Reed were killed in the accident.

Last night I saw on the news that the three moms came together and talked about their children, their lives together, creating a memory garden and other wonderful things. What really caught my attention was that each mom has had a dream about each of their children, all bringing peace and comfort and joy to them. It made me think of how God used dreams in the bible to hope and encourage. So we asked for you to tell us about your dreams that have blessed you. From the woman that dreamed about adopting a little girl that actually happened, to the deceased mother that comforted her daughter that heaven was waiting for her and many others, Dave and I were really touched by the calls. Today Dave and I wanted to hear your opinion on what we thought would bring lots of various opinions, but we were wrong! I just recently found out that you can access your mobile phone text online. I didn’t know that. We looked at both sides of checking your teenagers text. Are you invading their privacy? Should you check their text whether they give you reason to or not? Or is it our responsibility as parents to set rules and boundaries that protect our kids and that makes it ok to check on them.Well, 99% of all our callers said it’s a parents duty to check up on their kids, although most said the kids should be aware they may pull up those pages. The only call we got that disagreed with checking text came from a 24 year old gal who lives 900 miles from her parents, but her parents still pay for the cell bill. She said she would hate it if her parents checked up on her texts. Read more »

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day! Don’t forget. But we want to encourage you to take the message of love outside of what you may think Valentines Day is about. Sure we want to show our spouse that we love them on Valentines Day. But we should do that everyday … and not just our spouse. This listeners e-mail is a great reminder of how we should love everybody around us:

A group at our church is gathering on Saturday morning to assemble “ A small Valentine Hug” for our widows, widowers, shut-in couples and singles.

We will assemble mini-care packages consisting on home-made treats and candy . . and will spend the morning delivering them to all of the people in our church family who are alone . . or experiencing some difficulty this Valentines Day.

It’s our way of saying “ We love you”  and “God loves you”  today .  . . on Valentines Day.

I’m really glad you’re encouraging others to do the same.
