Today Dave and I talked about the fact today is kindergarten registration in Sioux Falls. We took lots of great calls about experiences of taking their child to their first day of kindergarten. Someone recommended this book for anyone who has a child heading off to kindergarten.

The Kissing Hand summary:

Chester Raccoon doesn’t want to go to school–he wants to stay home with his mother. She assures him that he’ll love school–with its promise of new friends, new toys, and new books. Even better, she has a special secret that’s been in the family for years–the Kissing Hand. This secret, she tells him, will make school seem as cozy as home. She takes her son’s hand, spreads his tiny fingers into a fan and kisses his palm–smack dab in the middle: “Chester felt his mother’s kiss rush from his hand, up his arm, and into his heart.”

Whenever he feels lonely at school, all he has to do is press his hand to his cheek to feel the warmth of his mother’s kiss. Chester is so pleased with his Kissing Hand that he–in a genuinely touching moment–gives his mom a Kissing Hand, too, to comfort her when he is away. Audrey Penn’s The Kissing Hand, published by the Child Welfare League of America, is just the right book for any child taking that fledgling plunge into preschool–or for any youngster who is temporarily separated from home or loved ones. The rough but endearing raccoon illustrations are as satisfying and soothing for anxious children as the simple story. (Ages 5 and older) Read more »

Do you feel an overwhelming love that just pours out of you for someone in your life? Maybe it’s your spouse, your children or Mom and Dad. I got thinking of how I often give a big hug to those people around me and tell them how special they are, but I never tell God with that sincere almost child like love. Well, starting today that’s gonna change! Let’s praise him and give him an overwhelming hug everyday. Read more »

Today:

Mostly sunny, with a high near 34.

The following news story we read today prompted Dave and me to think about wedding disasters and we thought this could be a great way to encourage couples getting married this year. We heard from catering that never showed up, grooms fainting, a dj that was sick and sent cd’s that ended up being blank and on and on …but be encouraged! No matter what you experience, we suggest you roll with the punches and even try to find a little humor in it that day. After all, what matters is the fact you’re now married to your best friend! What can dampen that?

We are thinking about our Northern neighbors as they prepare for the Red River to Crest in the next day or two. Here’s more information about it. Go to our website if you’re interested in volunteering time or donating things such as sump pumps to help out.

Psalm 106:1-2 LORD! You are good to us, and your love never fails. No one can praise you enough for all of the mighty things you have done.

Today:

Cloudy, then gradual clearing during the afternoon, with a high near 42. Breezy, with a west northwest wind between 15 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Today we talked about temptation. Really, temptation comes from things that are within our reach. Think about it. We’re never tempted to do things that are unrealistic like jumping out of an airplane without a paraschute, right? But going to an inappropriate website, or having an affair can be temptations because we can give into it. Jesus was tempted in all ways and never sinned. How much of an effort do we really put into not sinning? Do we just give in with not much of a fight? What’s your temptation today? How hard will you fight it? Remember Satan is not all knowing, so the only way he knows what we’ll fall to is based on what he’s seen us fall into before. Just an interesting thought today. Read more »

Todays Life Promise; Psalm 103:13 Just as parents who are kind to their children, the LORD is kind to all who worship Him.

Today: Mainly cloudy. Scattered rain showers by afternoon. High: 43°

Today Dave and I opened up the phones to your calls and we were so encouraged by the comments! We asked for you to share a time you didn’t go along with the crowd when you knew they were wrong. Tell us when you stood up to do the right thing even when it wasn’t the popular thing to do. We heard about the person who stopped a jeering college class from mocking a classmate taken to the nurse for a seizure they felt coming on. Also, from the worker who wouldn’t aid in management not being honest about comensation packages to employees and many others. Thank you for sharing and being an example of how to be bold soldiers for Christ. We’re reminded in Romans 2 not to conform to the world but to stand against doing wrong and we’ll be changed inside to out! Read more »

Life Promise today – Psalm 103:12 How far has the LORD taken our sins from us? Farther than the distance from the East to West.

Today: Scattered showers and thunderstorms before 10am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4pm. Cloudy, with a high near 60. Windy, with a southeast wind between 20 and 30 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

What an incredible Friday night it was for Luanne and me. We spent time with some very special young ladies from the Sioux Empire at Lincoln Hills Bible Church on Cliff Ave. in Sioux Falls. The girls picked out a gown for prom, got pampered through the evening and had a very special message about personal inner beauty by Mrs. South Dakota! She went on to tell the girls that beauty is not hair extentions, makeup, high heels, dresses or anything else that’s superficial. True beauty comes from within when you’ve asked Christ into your heart. Read more »

Todays Life Promise: John 4:14 Those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.

Today:

Morning sprinkles and breezy 58. Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 64.

This morning Dave and I talked about the mission trip to Haiti I’ll be taking the end of May. I was shocked to find out yesterday that there will be no running water while I’m there. And I have to be honest, my first reaction was that I have to back out! How can I live for a week with no running water? I’m the bubble bath queen! But God gave me a calm and joy about going, almost immediately. We’ll be staying at an orphanage that is training up these children to be missionaries. What a great opportunity, and I must go. Will you join me? Find out more at our website www.life965.fm Read more »

Today:

Mostly sunny, with a high near 52.

Todays’s Life Promise: Ephesians 4:32 – Be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

This morning Dave and I were talking about how God uses broken people. I don’t know what you may be going through or feeling today, but when I was in Israel I was taught a profound lesson about brokeness. Never in any of the bible teachings we had at any of the sights we visited (and they were many!) did our tour guide ever say something like “God used this person because he was well exquipped, stronger, smarter or more capable than anyone else in the land.” No, never. Throughout time God has used broken humbled people. So if you’re feeling broken today, that perhaps you can’t even put one foot in front of another … you are in good company my friend! Be blessed today and rely on God today for all your strength, not yourself. Read more »
