David Crowder & Mario Brothers

Renowned worship leader & music artist David Crowder recently spoke with jesusfreakhideout.com aboot his newest album, Church Music. Perhaps the most interesting revelation in the alternately humorous and sincere interview comes if you scroll almost to the end of the story. The interviewer asks the hairy gentleman about his favorite Nintendo game and it comes out that Crowder & band used sound effects from the original Mario Brother’s game and Duckhunt on the original Nintendo system!!!

Says Crowder:

Well, I think we spent too many days in front of the TV at friends’ houses trying to save the Princess.” It affected us.

Thanksgiving

From President Lincoln’s proclamation of Thanksgiving as a national holiday on October 3rd, 1863…

The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God.

And later in the document…

No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the most high God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the whole American People. I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojurning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.

Some Aid in the Battle Against Technology

Here’s a site talking about important helps for upgrading your Windows XP computer system to the new Windows 7! Apparently it can be more befuddling that would be nice!

DC Talk Lives!

The boys of DC Talk may be doing their own thing as solo artists now, but there are whole web communities keeping their legend alive. As I talked about this afternoon on the show, DCTalkunite.com is doing a good job of keeping DC Talk fans connected. They have message boards to talk to other fans, a radio station that plays only DC Talk hits (although there appear to be some technical issues with that), and pictures and biographies of the men of the band. There are even particular emphases on the spiritual journies of the band members. Viva DC Talk!

Farewell, Kodachrome

If you’re someone who’s into taking photos or just someone who enjoys looking at neat pictures (like me), than heads up on this one. The Kodak folks announced this week that they will no longer be offering their Kodachrome film product. Formerly the staple of their film empire… the move was made because they said that it no longer accounted for even one percent of their sales. It also reflects the growing prevalence of digital cameras.

A super cool way to say farewell to this old friend / film is to take a look at a slideshow of some of the best pictures ever taken with the product.

Struggling with the New Film “Angels and Demons”?

Hollywood is offering up another of Dan Brown’s books in film version. Angels and Demons is much like The Da Vinci Code in that it heavily misrepresents Christian beliefs and traditions. If you’re looking for a resource to learn more about the story and how it deviates from truth, visit this site from the Westminster Theological Seminary.

The Friday Afternoon Mosey

Guiness Book of Records has discovered that the world’s tallest living man resides in China, but the vertically victorious fellow isn’t sure he wants all the publicity that comes with officially being recognized as such.

Noah’s Ark in Hong Kong?

Talked about this during our afternoon hang out… the Kwok brothers of Hong Kong are building themselves a life size replica of Noah’s Ark. Here it is.

Apparently the ark – which houses a resort hotel and a museum among other attractions – occupies 270,000 square feet. No word on what it cost the Kwok’s to build.
