During February, you have the opportunity to bless young people through Lutheran Social Service’s Life Books.
A Life Book is like a scrap book but so much more! It’s a child’s life story that contains specific information about their birth, birth family, school history, and the places they have lived.
The book is intended to help children keep track of their path in life when they may not have anyone to remind them of those key moments in their life, such as where they were born, when they lost their first tooth, or what their favorite food was when they were 8!
After the Life books are crafted, they will be given to foster parents right here in the Sioux Empire. They will then put the finishing touches on the books by adding photos and keepsakes. Imagine the sense of security and belonging it will bring to the foster child as they move from home to home!

Last year, over 6500 Bibles were collected for the prayer tent at LifeLight!
Those Bibles were given out to new followers of Christ at the music festival, and the response was tremendous.
There is a need again this year for brand new Bibles, and you can help by donating them at our Life 96.5 Sticker Stops or at Crossroads Book and Music in Sioux Falls.
Used Bibles are not needed, but following is a list of specific types of Bibles that are being requested by LifeLight:
Beginner’s Bibles with stories and pictures.- Children’s Bibles with pictures and maps and drawings for ages 7 and younger.
- Youth Study Bibles with footnotes and maps and “side notes”.
- Teen Study Bibles with study helps, concordances, reference notes, etc.
- Adult Study Bibles with helps, notes, etc.
Paper back or hard cover Bibles are acceptable.
Preferred versions are New International , New King James, New Living, Revised Standard or New American Standard.
All languages and bi-lingual Bibles are also needed.
Please do not donate the “tiny print” Bibles with no notes or no study helps…they are
as cheap as 96 cents each, but not desirable for most situations.
Donations are most helpful, so Bibles can be purchased in large lots and the donor receives
a tax deductible receipt. Please make any checks payable to LifeLight.

Why Hands & Feet?
At Life 96.5, we believe each follower of Christ is called to be His hands and feet in our homes, communities, and the world. Serving in Jesus name is the concept behind Life 96.5 Hands and Feet. Each month we introduce you to a new project or organization in our area that we’d like you to know more about. Life 96.5 Hands and Feet gives you an opportunity to serve our community by getting involved in what these groups are doing by serving as the hands and feet of Jesus.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sioux Falls has a mission to improve Sioux Falls, one home at a time. And Habitat has a special way for Life 96.5 listeners and others in our community to partner with them and make a difference this month.
Sioux Falls has been selected as the site of the 2011 “Blitz Home Builders” build location. This national volunteer group selects just one city annually! They will be building 3 homes over a 9 day period, July 21-29. Locations and recipient/partner families have been selected.
Many companies and organizations have already signed on to help with materials, finances, labor, meals, and other volunteer commitments. And when the work begins on July 21, you can be the hands and feet of Jesus by serving together with us as we “Bless the Blitz”!
225 people have already volunteered to help the 100 builders that will be coming to Sioux Falls. We would like to help feed, support, encourage, and otherwise bless those volunteers with your help!
The Life 96.5 staff will be cooking and serving a meal for the builders and volunteers on Tuesday July 26th. While the food will be purchased by Habitat for this meal, your help in offsetting the cost with a monetary donation would be welcome. Please contact luanne@knwc.org to help with meal costs.
Here are some of the ways you can help “Bless the Blitz”:
- Volunteer your time at the site during the “Blitz Build” by helping register volunteers and directing them to their work place, or by providing minor first aid and taking bottled water to workers. The home sites are just steps away from the volunteer tent. A mom and her kids or a retired person would be perfect for this. Call Troy at (605)339-6406 or (605)370-3033 or email him at troy.gordon@siouxfallshabitat.org for more information.
- Your group can provide and serve a meal (for 100). Seven of the 9 meals have been spoken for, but dates remain: Saturday, July 23rd. This is a great service opportunity for a youth or church group, or even a generous family. Call Troy Gordon with questions or to volunteer in this way at (605)339-6406 or (605)370-3033.
- Provide snacks. Each day snacks are provided at 8:30am and 1:30pm for the 100 volunteer workers on site. You can donate healthy snacks like fruit, homemade trail mix, home baked breads, cookies, or bars, granola bars, energy bars, crackers, or anything else that is easy to serve and eat. This is a huge need and a wonderful way to help if you cannot volunteer your time. Contact Troy at (605)339-6406 or (605)370-3033 or email him at troy.gordon@siouxfallshabitat.org for more information.
- Your construction skills can go to work if you wish to volunteer as an “on call builder”. Sometimes groups that travel to Sioux Falls from other communities get held up or cannot make it and fill-ins are needed on short notice. Contact Troy at (605)339-6406 or (605)370-3033 or email him at troy.gordon@siouxfallshabitat.org for more information.
The “Blitz Build” will take place at Hayward Meadows on Amber Street in northwest Sioux Falls, From Marion Road going north, go west (left) to Cockatiel, go west (left) to Amber and then go right on Amber Street to the site. See and download a map here>>
